I'll Be There For You

Jeff sighed as he stood in the door way of Infirmary room 309. The young pup had been in that room for just under a month, and had yet to even open his eyes. Some doubted her was even going to live....

Jay could tell someone was watching at the doorway but he was far to weak to open his eyes even if he wanted to. His master had abused him since he was a small pup but then he had studdenly abandoned him. Jay knew that meant he was worthless and so he didn't care anymore.

Jeff watched into the room, scribbling a few things in Jay's file. "You hang in there pup," Jeff murmured "You're gonna be fine."

Jay's ears twiched, this was the first time some one had talked to him since he got here.

Jeff smiled and reached out to rub one of the small blonde ears.

Jay felted the gentle hand on his ear and tried to open his eyes, whining softly when he couldn't.

"Shhhhh, just rest pup," said Jeff. "Get your strength back."

Jay sighed softly and sniffed the air to get the mans scent so he'd know which one the kind man was.

Jeff chuckled. "That's not resting pup."

Jay whined softly again and pouted.

"You need to rest little one," said Jeff. "I don't want the others coming in to try and sedate you."

Jay nodded slowly, he was already half asleep.

Jeff smiled. "That's a good boy."

Jay fell fast asleep.

Jeff sat by the bed. He didn't want to leave.

Jay woke a hour later and opened his eyes a crack.

Jeff smiled. "Well hey there little one."

"H-Hello." Jay said in a low screachy voice, he'd not talked in a while.

Jeff smiled and grabbed the glass of water he'd gone after a few minutes before, holding the straw so Jay could drink. "This'll help."

Jay started to drink slowly as he looked up at Jeff.

Jeff smiled. "Drink all you want, it's yours."

Jay continued to drink till he finished half the glass.

"Better?" Jeff asked gently.

Jay nodded slowly, opening his eyes a little more.

Jeff smiled. "That's it, nice and easy now."
